The Media Commons is a university-wide initiative to help enrich students’ educations by creating digital content for their coursework. The Media Commons will provide all campuses within Penn State with a common set of computing tools, a common set of support materials, and a common set of opportunities to create digital media of all kinds. The Media Commons will also help educate faculty, staff, and students on the appropriate uses of digital media.

FAQ's:
Q: How can I make a reservation to use the MC studio or editing suites?
A: Currently the Library Circulation desk can assist you in making an appointment. In the future an online appointment system will be available.
Q: I made a reservation but the room is locked?
A: Stop by the Library Circulation desk to pickup a key
Q: I need a digital video or still camera to complete a project, but I can't take the equipment from the studio, what do I do?
A: The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department can provide digital video and still cameras to students for a two day rental, browse to: http://www.ma.psu.edu/it and click on the "AV Services" link for details.
Q: I have a camera but no tape, what kind of tape do I need?
A: Student must use their own tapes. The campus bookstore has been asked to stock the appropriate "Mini DV" video cassettes that will work with the campus equipment.
Q: I need help, where should I go?
A: There are a number of ways to get help with MC projects, a few are noted below:
- How-to manuals are provided in each editing suite.
- During the hours of 8am – 5pm, pickup the telephone located in each editing suite and dial extension 5000. This will connect you to the MC helpdesk in UP. Consultants have the ability to remotely access the computers to assist you in real time.
- Visit the MC website for online how-to documents and video tutorials. You can also chat with a consultant from the MC website (http://mediacommons.psu.edu/)
- Each month a MC consultant visits the campus. The Library Circulation desk can help you schedule an appointment with the consultant while he or she is on campus.
