Active Shooter Response 

What is an active shooter?

An active shooter is a person whose activity is immediately causing death or serious injury and the threat is not contained. 

 

 

 

 

 

What to do if an active shooter incident is occurring on campus:

If you are on campus during an active shooter incident:

  1. Exit the building immediately if possible
  2. Notify anyone that you may encounter to exit the building immediately
  3. Contact the Police at 911. Do not assume that others have already called
  4. Provide the police dispatcher with as much information as possible, including:
  • Your name
  • Your location
  • The location of the incident
  • The number of shooters involved (if known)
  • The names or identities of the shooters (if known)
  • Type of weapons used (if known)

What to do if you CANNOT EXIT THE BUILDING

  1. Go to the nearest room or office
  2. Close and lock the door
  3. Turn off the lights
  4. Seek protective cover and stay away from doors and windows
  5. Remain quiet
  6. DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR (police will have keys to unlock the door when necessary)
  7. If possible, CALL 911. Do not assume others have called. The 911 center will need information from you, so remain calm and answer their questions as thoroughly as possible. They will want to know:
  • Your name
  • Your location
  • The location of the incident
  • The number of shooters (if known)
  • The names or identities of the shooters (if known)
  • The types of weapons used (if known

       8.  Wait for the police to assist you out of the building
