These guidelines are provided to assist individuals in the event of an emergency medical situation on campus. These procedures provide the most rapid response possible for each type of circumstance.

  1. SERIOUS ILLNESS OR INJURY
    • Dial 911 from the nearest telephone and request an ambulance.  When you request an ambulance, the dispatcher will ask you to provide your name, the exact location of the incident, and the type of illness or injury that you suspect.
    • It is not necessary for you to contact University Police after you place the 911 call. The dispatcher will automatically notify the duty officer to respond to your location.
    • If you are trained in first aid, you should begin to administer first aid only after 911 notification. A second individual at the scene should be used to place the 911 call whenever possible.
    • If you are not certain of the illness or injury type or the extent of the illness or injury, then the circumstance is an emergency and 911 should be contacted.
  2. MINOR ILLNESS OR INJURY:
    • Individuals with a minor illness or injury have several service options:
    • If during business hours, contact the campus nurse at Health Services in Conklin Hall at 717-749-6160, Please note: Health Services has limited office hours, therefore, you should familiarize yourself with those hours. • If after business hours, contact University Police at 717-749-6070
    • If available to you, you may consider to have a friend drive you to the hospital or doctor’s office.
    • University Police will provide basic first aid services for minor injury.
