Social Brunch Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Penn State Nursing
MONT ALTO, Pa. –The Penn State Mont Alto (PSMA) Nursing Program will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Penn State Nursing with a social brunch, silent auction and lecture beginning at 9 a.m. on March 22 in the Multi-purpose Activity Center (MAC). All proceeds will benefit the Student Hardship Fund. The event is open to the public. The cost to attend is $20 and registration is requested by calling 717-749-6137. PSMA Nursing has offered nursing courses since 1991.
Penn State University Senior Lecturer in Nursing Darlene Clark will speak on the topic of “Sustainability in Healthcare” – a relevant topic in today’s nursing profession because lead health organizations – the World Health Organization (WHO), American Nursing Association (ANA) and International Council of Nurses (ICN) – have a focus on sustainability and want to reduce medical waste in particular, according to Clark.
Penn State Mont Alto’s Nursing Program is one of five Commonwealth campuses to receive a sustainability grant to reduce medical waste through recycling efforts in its simulation lab. Clark spearheaded the grant which will also be implemented at Penn State University Park and five other Commonwealth campuses. The grant was awarded by the Sustainability Institute at Penn State and is funded by the Reinvention Fund of the Penn State Sustainability Institute with the purpose of linking and leveraging The University’s collective capacity in pursuit of sustainability.
Clark’s research interests include the nursing shortage, nationally and globally, workplace voice for registered nurses and collective bargaining in the nursing profession. She has worked as a registered nurse for 33 years.
