MedCamp Offers Students the Opportunity to Learn about Healthcare Careers
MedCamp is open to students interested in learning more about healthcare careers and who meet the application requirements. The program gives 9th- and 10th-grade students the opportunity to visit local hospitals and healthcare facilities. In addition, students learn about healthcare careers, including physical medicine and surgery, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, pathology, and more.
MedCamp 2014 will run Monday through Friday, June 23 through 27. The “home base” for the camp is Penn State Mont Alto and transportation is provided to hospitals and field trip locations throughout the week.
One of the highlights of the camp will include a trip to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The students will also receive training in first-aid from an American Red Cross approved instructor. This program is an outstanding opportunity for students with an interest in science and careers in healthcare.

A Three-day, High-engagement Introduction to Design Thinking
In this three-day camp for incoming 11th and 12th graders, students will learn how to design technologies from their own ideas by applying techniques for rapidly prototyping and evaluating multiple interface alternatives. They will:
Conduct fieldwork with people to generate design ideas
Make interactive paper prototypes and low-fidelity mock-ups
Collect feedback from teammates and users about the prototypes and mock-ups
Focus on principles of visual design, perception and cognition to effectively organize and present information about their interfaces

Applications will be accepted through May 15.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee.
Notifications will be sent by mail the week of May 26.
Cost is $250 per person (includes meals and all materials)
Day camp times are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Payment is due in full by June 30.
