Penn State offers an exciting opportunity for high school students to take college courses at a 50 percent tuition reduction. Qualified high school juniors and seniors can prepare for the future by earning college credits and experiencing the workload of a college class. Credits earned can be applied to a Penn State degree and are part of one transcript recognized at all Penn State campuses. Credits earned may also be considered for transfer to another institution.

Students who have completed their junior year or are currently in their senior year of high school may apply for high school nondegree enrollment. Exceptions for high school juniors and underclass students may be considered. Students who have graduated from high school may not participate in this program. This is also a great opportunity for homeschooled students who have not yet graduated.
- You must be a high school student in your junior or senior year.
- Minimum Requirements:
- SAT score 1000 (math & critical reasoning) or PSAT score 100 (math & critical reasoning)
- 3.0 overall grade point average.
If a student has not taken either test we can review an application based on PSSA scores. Students are reviewed individually by the Early to College Coordinator in the admissions office. Students who have graduated are not eligible to take part in the Early to College program.
Applying to the Program
Interested high school students should contact their high school counselor to discuss the Early to College program. Students should also contact the Office of Admission at Penn State Mont Alto, 717-749-6130, or firstname.lastname@example.org for an Early to College application packet. Complete credentials to support the application process include the following:
- a completed nondegree enrollment form
- a current, official high school transcript
- SAT/ACT or PSAT scores
- a statement from a teacher, counselor, or principal in support of the student's enrollment at Penn State
Students will receive notification of the admission decision, along with instructions for placement testing, advising, and course scheduling.
Depending on the class, students may be required to take placement tests in English, math, or chemistry. Students may enroll in any class offered by a Penn State campus, as long as the student has met all the prerequisite courses and successfully completed the required placement tests, and provided space is available.
Seniors may take up to 8 credits (2 courses) per semester and earn a maximum of 16 credits; juniors and underclass students must contact a Penn State representative to learn about their credit options. To remain in the program, students must earn a grade of C or better in each course.
It is the student's responsibility to arrange tuition payment. A special part of the Early to College program is a grant-in-aid in the amount of 50 percent of the tuition for a maximum of 8 credits per semester. Books, technology fees, and activity fees will also be applied.
In order to be reviewed for Fall Early to College all necessary documents must be submitted by June 1st.
Students interested in Spring Early to College must submit documents by December 1st.
